Manhattan in Black and White

Hi Guys!

A few weeks ago I watched the movie Manhattan directed by Woody Allen. One of the things that I really liked about the movie was the decision to shoot in black and white. Watching NYC in black and white was really interesting to me. So I decided to start to take some picture in black and white of Manhattan, I started in the Rockefeller Center area because it's the perfect spot to take some iconic pictures (especially now with all the Christmas decorations). *All pictures are taken with 35mm film ILFord Delta 400. #filmisalive #malderafilm #35mm

Mono No Aware at the Light Space Studios in Bushwick

Hi Guys!

Last saturday I went to an event called Mono No Aware at the Light Space Studios in Bushwick. They had an exhibition of expanded cinema, performance, live music and installations. It was interesting to see artists making visual art with celluloid and not just for the purposes of pure entertainment. The host organization - Mono No Aware, offers workshops for people who want to learn how to shoot with 16mm film. I am planning on checking it out! As usual I had with me a Fujicolor QuickSnap camera to take some pictures of the event and also of bushwick by night.

Check the gallery below :)

New Book Cover Design : Static Cling

Hi Guys!

I'm really proud to show you the new book cover that I created for the writer Gerald Hansen for his new book Static Cling. Our collaboration started with a cover for his book, Best Served Frozen. The look was inspired by Saul Bass, one of my favorite graphic designers. I have always been a big fan of his movie posters and motion titles, especially for his collaboration with Hitchcock and his simple yet powerful and timeless style. For the cover of Static Cling we decided to keep the same look, only instead of several images on the front cover, decided to use just one image.

You can find the ebook on Amazon or Barnes & Noble

Actor Portfolio

Hi Guys!

Before Thanksgiving break I was working on the post production for some pictures I took of the actress, Jeanne Lauren Smith. Outside of my career as a VFX artist and filmmaker, I enjoy taking photos - mostly with 35mm film. For this particular shooting, I was asked to take portfolio style photos. This was an exciting job for me because I have been wanting to experiment with this type of photography for some time. Working on an actor portfolio is not an easy task, and there are certain rules you must follow. With that in mind, I wanted to combine the typical characteristics of a portfolio style photo with my own personal style to create something unique and functional for an actor. By incorporating my own personal style, I am able to create a unique and professional product, different than the typical actor portfolio. The idea is to provide the client with a solid headshot, full and half body photos and some vintage style shots.

If you are interested in this type of actor portfolio, know of actors that may be interested or have any questions please feel free to contact me at: malderafilm@gmail.com

Here a the gallery of the shots. Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Halloween 2015 with a Fujifilm QuickSnap Flash 400 Disposable 35mm Camera

Hi Guys!

Its been few weeks since my last post because work has been crazy! But I haven't forgotten about the blog. On Halloween, I took some pictures with a Fujifilm QuickSnap Flash 400 Disposable 35mm Camera while out in Brooklyn. I really like the vintage / amateur effect you get from disposable cameras and it's really exciting to see the end result. Enjoy the gallery and feel free to leave me a comment!
